Pointer Oral History Project

Every Pointer has a story to share, and the UW-Stevens Point Alumni Association wants you to share yours. The Alumni Association has partnered with Publishing Concepts, Inc. (PCI) to collect your Pointer Alumni stories. This project aims to collect as many stories as possible to create a unique historical archive of your Pointer experience. It’s always a great day to be a Pointer and the oral history project is a great opportunity for the Alumni Association to gather stories across generations, life experiences and a myriad of professions. 

The Pointer community is vast, with over 90,000 alumni, and the Alumni Association has partnered with PCI to reach as many Pointers as possible. Sharing your Pointer memories as part of this project will ensure that the remarkable history of UWSP is preserved for generations to come. PCI will soon be reaching out to you asking for your participation in this exciting and historic project. PCI will be sending out email and postcard communications with instructions on participating in the project.  PCI will be collecting Pointer stories until early 2024 and will then produce an UWSP Alumni stories book available for purchase to be distributed later in 2024.  There is no requirement to purchase anything to participate in telling your story.  

Pointer Stories topic ideas:

• Was there a special faculty or staff member that made a profound impact in your life? 
• Did you and your partner meet at UWSP?
• Was there a defining moment at UWSP that led you on your career path? 
• Have connections made on campus led to lifelong friendships?
• Did an historical moment happen while you were at UWSP? 
• Were you the first in your family to go to college?
• Have other generations of your family gone to UWSP or are your children planning on attending? 
• What is your favorite memory of your time at UWSP? 
• Other stories of how being a Pointer has impacted your life?  

PCI  Partnership

The UW-Stevens Point Alumni Association has partnered with PCI to reach out to as many Pointer Alumni as possible. All Pointer stories are important, and PCI has trained staff to help facilitate the collection of the most important Pointer story, yours!  

Please note, we have only provided your contact information to PCI as part of this oral history project. The Alumni Association has not sold your information or used it for other outside marketing purposes. 

Pointer Oral History Book Purchase

You do not need to purchase anything in connection with this project. The project is done at no cost to UW-Stevens Point but is supported by those Alumni who choose to purchase a copy of the book of compiled Pointer stories. PCI will offer various packages for those interested.
