Pizza and Philanthropy
By Laura Gehrman Rottier | September 25, 2019 | Helping Out
When you think of philanthropy, pizza may not be the first thing that comes to mind. But in Stevens Point, the local Papa John’s is raising the bar. Coming back to the community in 2017, Point’s Papa John’s franchise wasted no time connecting with the UWSP campus.
Support from the pizza shop has taken the form of in-kind gifts; they have provided free pizza for Homecoming, our annual Day of Giving and various sporting events.
In 2019, the local Papa John’s raised the philanthropy bar by providing free pizza coupons for UWSP’s food pantry, the Cupboard, to disburse to students struggling with hunger when they pick up other groceries.
“This is such a kind gesture from Papa John’s” said Al Thompson, UWSP Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. “It means a great deal to our students and we are grateful for their generosity.”
In addition, the store honors its student discount price for UWSP alumni who show their old student ID or alumni membership card. Papa John’s and UWSP are proud to be forging a deep and lasting relationship that will positively impact alumni and students for years to come.
